Here’s some of the day-to-day work we do to help make energy more secure, more affordable and more sustainable

Rapid charge

We’ve just opened bp pulse’s fastest, most powerful and largest UK EV charging hub.

Drivers in the Kettering area of Northamptonshire can add up to 100 miles in around 15 minutes.

It’s all part of our commitment to invest £1 billion in the UK’s EV charging infrastructure over 10 years.

Biojet lifts off

The first UK flight using Air-bp 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) took to the skies over Oxfordshire.

SAF isn’t mainstream yet, but the 90-minute test flight could help to pave the way for biojet to take off.

SAF has the potential to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to the conventional jet fuel it replaces

Helicopters head out

Helicopters are flying on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Aberdeen to our North Sea offshore operations.

We’re the first North Sea operator using SAF for offshore transport.


Ready for wind

High-tech Seawatch® Wind Lidar buoys scope the Irish Sea before construction can begin on two new wind farms.


Safe storage

A new pipeline in the Northeast is set to transport captured CO2 so it can be safely stowed away under the North Sea.

But first a survey needs to take place so engineers know how to build it.


Setting sail

With energy supplies tight right now, we’re getting a rig ready to head to our offshore oil and gas fields west of Shetland. 

Drilling new wells to connect to our existing facility begins this year.


Small steps towards giant offshore wind farms

Installing massive wind turbines starts with a survey of the seabed. It’s a first step towards building the most efficient wind farms in the best location. The Mona and Morgan offshore wind projects in the Irish Sea could deliver enough capacity to power the equivalent of 3.4 million homes once up and running by 2030.

Reducing emissions offshore

Decarbonizing our operations starts with the everyday ingenuity of our expert engineers. Take our team on the giant Glen Lyon floating production, storage and offloading facility, for example.

They continuously look for opportunities to reduce operational emissions – lowering annual emissions by almost 100,000 tonnes in two years.

London EVs get charged

It’s now even easier for EV drivers across London to get back on the road. We’ve just finished installing more than 300 rapid charge points for consumers and fleets, together with Transport for London.

Projects like these are what will get bp to our aim of 100,000 charge points installed this decade, to help drivers plug in and emit less.   


Cutting emissions in shipping

Our work to cut the big emissions associated with shipping begins with our team in a Singapore shipyard and a paint pot.

Getting more renewable diesel on the road

Our team at Cherry Point refinery has doubled its renewable diesel capacity to more than 7,000 barrels a day, turning waste vegetable oil and animal fat into fuel for cars and trucks. This is expected to reduce the CO2 emissions resulting from the diesel produced by up to 600,000 tons per year. That’s like taking around 130,000 cars off the road.

Building a charging network

We’re adding to our global EV charging network every day.

We’ve just switched on the first of 600 planned bp pulse EV charging points in Australia. It’s one today, but a step towards transforming how people get around and our aim of having 100,000 EV chargers installed worldwide by 2030 (up from around 22,000 today).


Electric trucks

Electric trucks seemed unthinkable a few years ago, but we’ve now opened two ultra-fast charging points aimed specifically at medium and heavy-duty electric trucks.

The 300-kilowatt chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy and capable of adding around 200 kilometres (125 miles) of range in around 45 minutes.

Electrifying operations

No generators, no flares. Just power lines. Our onshore bpx energy operations in Texas just got a lot quieter. That’s because we’re switching on natural gas wells powered by clean electricity. Tying the wells directly into the grid means no gas-driven generators, no tanks and no flares.

We’re well on our way to our goal of 95% electrification by the end of 2023. 


New York store opens

The first ampm convenience store opened in New York City, complete with hot deli and grocery. 

The new bp-owned and operated store in the Bronx is part of a pilot project to open four ampm stores in the New York market.

The new site joins the more than 1,000 stores in the chain located on the West Coast.


Convenience Down Under

Forget chocolate bars and crisps. Loaded fries, crunchy toasties and roasted chicken are now on the menu at our retail station in Merrifield, Australia.

Every aspect of the retail experience there has been improved – from the new look and feel store to enhanced digital and loyalty offers.

It’s all part of our push to create a compelling convenience offer for customers at our retail sites Down Under.
