Sweet life at BP

From working in a supporting environment to making the most of financial benefits - as well as work-life balance initiatives and great social events - there are many ways working with bp sweetens our everyday lives.

For example, in November 2018 bp staff got together to share their favourite Christmas dessert recipes, and created a ‘bp in Hungary’ recipe book - and it turned out to be a recipe not just for making a good dessert, but also for making a good workplace.

1. Get the right ingredients
A selection of the recipes were made with the help of celebrity chef,
Rozina Wossala. In the same way that a supportive work environment, plus the right capabilities are essential for our colleagues to perform at their best in the office, so too do fresh ingredients, and the right tools, make a kitchen work effectively - and create delicious food!

2. Reward yourself!

Rozina Wossala also shared with us how she rewards herself after a long, successful day. Our rewards matter too, from comprehensive benefits including modern and free health insurance, to wide-ranging fringe benefits and other bonus opportunities and rewards.

3. Take your time
Besides a great working environment and rewards for work well done, any chef in the know understands that patience is important, and excellent food takes time. To leaven dough, to marinade, to blend flavours – they're all key to creating the perfect results. Similarly, employees need time too: to recharge our batteries, grow and be inspired. That's why maintaining a work-life balance through flexible working hours, agile working, working in a learning culture with colleagues that motivate us and inspire us to do our best, are also great things available to us at bp.

4. Variety is the spice of life!

Finally, Rozina also mentioned how great meals can be adjusted to our taste with different spices, flavours and ingredients and how different courses complement each other. Another metaphor for working at bp: as employees we can choose which community activities to take part in to spice up our working days, we can take part in valued volunteering programmes, and we can sign-up to social events, join networks and get involved with sports clubs.

The programme has not stopped with baking delicious bp cakes and cookies with Rozina and experiencing environment, reward, benefits, agile working and off-work opportunities through her lens.

In the Budapest and Szeged Christmas markets everyone had the opportunity to taste those yummy bp cookies. By purchasing a cookie the Christmas market visitors did not only have the possibility to experience the Sweet life at BP, but to do something for a good cause.

The total income from the Christmas fairs will be distributed among three organizations:

  • Children surgery department at Szeged Hospital
  • Hintalovon Foundation supporting children’ rights in Hungary
  • Uccu Roma Informal Educational Foundation

Viktor Knezevics, Head of Country was recently talking about the Sweet life at BP programme and our employee engagement and company culture in general on the radio. You can listen to the conversation her.
